SLUG Meeting Minutes 3-26-03 Members present: Matt Strauser Phil Schultz Bill English Seth Barber - Phil gave a brief history of SLUG. He, Matt, and a couple others tried starting a Salem LUG a year or so ago, but got too busy. Let's hope this time is different. - Focus. Linux evangelism and education sounded like the main focus that the group was talking about. Seth brought up the idea of software development. Our initial purpose sounds something like: Bringing current linux users together to expand their horizons. - Domain name - The current domain name (salemlug.org) will expire soon. We discussed keeping it or changing it to something else. Bill brought up www.woodburnkeizersalemstayton.org, but no one else was in agreement. Other suggestions were talked about, but it was decided that we will keep the current domain and each chip in $3 or $4 to cover the cost. - website - Bill, Phil, & Seth will co-operatively work on it as time permits. - meetings - Yes, we agreed that we should continue to meet monthly. Possibly have a Saturday workshop now and then on a demand basis. - rules - We agreed that we will need rules later. Now is a little early for that, however. - costs - Right now our only cost is the domain name and snack rotation. We talked about dues as the group grows beyond 4 or 5 members attending. Nothing was decided though. We had wonderful cookies provided by Beth (Phil's wife), Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Root Beer, and warm brownies just out of the oven.
